In short

  • Your records stay on your MacSessions, notes, and statistics are kept in the app’s sandbox on this Mac and aren’t synced to iCloud or other devices.
  • No accountHoursight has no sign-up, sign-in, or user account.
  • The app doesn’t send us your recordsThe app itself doesn’t send your focus records to us, and it has no analytics, ads, or third-party code.
  • Apple handles paymentPurchases and subscriptions go through the App Store; the app only reads your purchase status and never handles payment details.
  • This website and your emailThis site uses no cookies and loads nothing from third parties; the host may keep access logs. If you write to us, we use your email only to reply.

01Who is responsible

Hoursight is made and provided by Shan Jiang (“we”). For questions about this policy, write to hello@hoursight.app.

02What Hoursight keeps on your Mac

To time your sessions and show statistics, Hoursight keeps the following on your Mac:

  • Session records: start and end times, duration, and any note you write.
  • What’s derived from them: statistics, records and their alerts, and the comparison saved each time you finish a block.
  • Free-session counts: one entry each time a session starts, used to count the free sessions for the day.
  • Settings: the app language, how the menu bar item looks, and whether the block strip is shown; plus the last confirmed subscription plan and end date, kept for display only and never used to decide access.
  • Housekeeping files: a lock file that stops two copies running at once, and a diagnostic file that keeps only its last 50 lines and contains none of your records.

All of this lives in the app’s sandbox container and is read and written only by Hoursight on this Mac. It isn’t synced to iCloud or other devices, and we can’t access it.

03What the app doesn’t collect

The Hoursight app itself doesn’t collect personal information or send any of the above to us or anyone else: no account, no analytics, no ads, no third-party code.

The app runs in the macOS sandbox without permission to make outgoing network connections. It reads the network status the system reports (online or not) so it can ask the App Store again about your purchase once you’re back online; this sends none of your data.

If you choose in macOS settings to share analytics with app developers, Apple may give us diagnostic information such as crash reports.

04Purchases and subscriptions

Apple handles purchases, subscriptions, free trials, renewals, and refunds through the App Store, under Apple’s Privacy Policy. Hoursight uses Apple’s StoreKit to read your purchase status in this app (for example, whether you subscribe or own Lifetime) to decide which features are available. In this process we don’t receive your name, Apple Account, or payment details, and your focus records aren’t sent to Apple.

05Input Monitoring

Requested only when you turn on the right Option double-press shortcut. It is used only to notice that double-press while you work in other apps; Hoursight keeps just a temporary state for the check and never saves or sends your keystrokes or what you type. Without it, you can still time from the menu. You can turn it off any time in System Settings › Privacy & Security › Input Monitoring.

06This website

This is a static site. It uses no cookies and loads no third-party scripts, fonts, or analytics. It is hosted by Vercel, which may keep access logs (such as IP addresses and times) under its own policy.

07When you write to us

We receive your email address and what you write, and use them only to reply. Mail is forwarded to our Gmail inbox by Cloudflare Email Routing, which doesn’t store message content; our replies are sent through Resend, which keeps them for 30 days. We keep your email for 12 months after we finish replying. You can ask us to delete our correspondence.

08Deleting your data

You can delete individual records in Statistics & History. Because your focus records are only on your Mac, we can’t see or delete them for you; you can ask us to delete our email correspondence (see the previous section). Deleting the app may not remove the focus records on your Mac.

09Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we’ll update this page and its effective date.
